You made a good resolution: aluminium salts will no longer pass through your armpits. You even found your new deodorant, healthy and 100% natural. Great idea! But the problem with aluminium salts is that they are addictive. For our body as for our mind. In short, we may know that they are harmful, not always easy to do without… Here are some keys to help you easily switch from an antiperspirant to a natural deodorant.
Aluminium Salts: Danger!
To dissuade you from going back, let's start with a reminder bite: aluminium does not bring anything to our body and is toxic at a threshold that remains uncertain. What is known: it is dangerous in cases of renal, hepatic or respiratory failure and involved in the development of neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's, Parkinson's), bone damage, diabetes, inflammatory diseases of the intestines and some cancers, especially breast. And there is no shortage of aluminium sources. Aluminium being the 3rd most abundant element in the Earth's bark, so in our soils and waters, our food is logically saturated with it. And then we add it with our preservatives, dyes, water treatment products, food utensils and containers, antacid drugs, dentures and, of course, our cosmetics. Deodorants and antiperspirants on top. In small doses, of course, but with a nice cocktail effect: their daily accumulation quickly ends up doing a lot! And our organism is not able to completely get rid of it.
Result: they fixate and accumulate on our organs.
The case of deodorants and antiperspirants is of particular concern: they contain aluminium in the form of salts small enough to pass the skin barrier and apply on the armpits, key area of our lymphatic system, to the thin epidermis often permeated by hair removal. A real highway for aluminium salts!
Antiperspirants: Useless and Harmful
So why are they so common? Because they are inexpensive and without real competition in terms of efficiency. Astringent, they drastically limit our production of sweat and, able to capture water, absorb the one that is produced.
Is it worth the risk?
Of course not! And it's the wrong fight: sweating is not an enemy to eradicate!
Already, it does not smell bad: unwanted odours are produced by the bacteria that proliferate in it. It is even indispensable for our health. By secreting it, our body regulates its temperature and discharges toxins harmful to its functioning. Preventing you from sweating, therefore, is accumulating waste to avoid some Aureoles under the arms.
The most ironic? It is through perspiration that our body evacuates the most aluminium…
And that's not all: do you know how aluminium salts work?
They create a small inflammation that pushes the skin to defend itself by thickening. This is what narrows the pores, creating a kind of plug that prevents sweat from flowing out. Yes: It aggress our skin and plug our pores voluntarily.
Oye: clogging of pores and inflammation of sweat glands on the horizon… it's not too late to stop everything!
I Give Up Aluminium Salts: What to Expect?
The course is sometimes difficult to pass due to a number of fears not always justified… let's unravel the truth from the false.
Already, do you know what you can expect from your (good) natural deodorant?
It will neutralize the production of bad odors by regulating the proliferation of bacteria, possibly slightly perfume your armpits but in no way block your perspiration. However, it can absorb the excess thanks to natural powders and regulate it slightly with gently astringent oils or hydrolyzes. And that's very good.
Then yes: you will sweat. By the time your body regulates itself like a big one, you may even notice a slight overproduction of sweat. But most of all you will rediscover that we naturally produce about a liter of sweat a day or more, depending on the weather, our activities… and you may have forgotten the sensation in the armpits. Your body needs to learn how to function again and, you, get used to its natural functioning.

But no, you will not (necessarily) feel bad. Honestly, it's possible. But in no case a forced passage. And especially very subjective and temporary: you will re-get used to your natural smell and resume the right reflexes to better manage your perspiration.
However, your body can go through a detox phase of chemicals accumulated every day under your armpits by your previous deodorant. In the first place are aluminium salts. If you have been using it for years, you will need to open the clogged pores to allow your epidermis to resume its natural role in this area and remove all stored residues. It is also possible that during this phase you will feel irritation under the armpits. This is not due to your new deodorant-if properly formulated - but to chemicals, including aluminium salts, that your body will expel.
The best way to pass this step?
Your body knows how to do it very well, trust it. A matter of time, helped by a healthy and effective deodorant like our Keep Cool. But nothing prevents you from giving a little help to your skin by adopting some good habits … to keep next.
Help Your Body Pick Up Aluminium Salts
To help your epidermis at best, it is essential to use the most gentle and respectful products: soap and deodorant are to choose with care.
Be sure to adopt a gentle and impeccable hygiene: clean your armpits at least morning and evening. Gently but effectively: choose a soap without sulfates to avoid any risk of irritation, soft and rich in natural assets to soothe and balance your skin aggressed by aluminum salts. A cold saponified surgras soap, rich in anti-inflammatory and balancing vegetable oils like our Soap Rise is ideal to help renew and de-grease your armpits. Perhaps give preference to its fragrance-free version during this transition phase. Massage gently and, if you do not depilate, pay special attention to rinsing (if you depilate, redouble gently!). Finally, dry carefully by gently dabbing before applying your deodorant. It would not create a bacteria friendly, moist and warm environment.
But Beware of Excesses!
The net is full of recipes for masks to put under the armpits, usually based on clay. But also, apple cider vinegar and essential oils: the risk of irritation is real on a weakened epidermis, especially if you have sensitive or atopic skin. And once the plates are installed on this area, good courage to get rid of them … above all, do not follow the advice of mechanical scrub: you would only manage to pickle your epidermis, especially fragile. On the contrary, your armpits need softness and reinforcement to pass this delicate phase.

This is where choosing your new deodorant is essential. Natural, soft, enriched with soothing actives-vegetable oils and butters, hydrolates - it will help you pass the course without unwanted odors, calming and strengthening your epidermis.
If your armpits are really irritated by aluminum salts, choose it without essential oils. There, too, do not overdo it: a layer 3 times thicker will not make it 3 times more effective. On the contrary, this will create deposits favorable for the development of bacteria and therefore odors. Oops! However, if necessary, during these few days of transition, do not hesitate to re-apply during the day … if and only if your deodorant is well 100% natural, without irritating components, of course.

Finally, reviewing your hygiene of life can be a great help. Your diet sweats under your armpits! Drink enough water, limit certain foods that cause profuse sweating and/or odorant (alcohol, caffeine, garlic, spices, meats…), prefer those that, draining, help us to evacuate toxins: green vegetables, citrus fruits, coriander, persil … broccoli, in particular, is powerfully detoxifying. Also pay attention to the choice of your clothes.
Ample, made of natural materials they will let your body breathe and limit the proliferation of bacteria. Finally, anything that can allow you to manage your stress, frequent cause of excessive sweating is good to take: meditation, relaxation, yoga…

Be careful, if you feel that your sweating remains excessive apart from physical exertion or stress and/or too strongly odorous, consider consulting to identify the causes.
The use of an antiperspirant may have masked the symptoms of a problem to be treated (additional reason why their use is a bad idea!). But apart from these cases, what you thought might be insurmountable will actually pass in a few days, two weeks at most. It is even possible that you will not notice any difference, as soon as you have learned to live in good intelligence with your sweat. That is, with your body, what is sure, in any case, is that your health will win!
